      <abstract>
The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) issues a Seasonal East Pacific Hurricane Outlook in late May. This outlook provides information to decision makers and the public regarding expected East Pacific hurricane activity during a given season.
      </abstract>
      <purpose>
There is a strong interest in what the East Pacific hurricane season might bring. The climate system often gives seasonal hurricane forecasters important clues we can then use to estimate the character of the upcoming hurricane season. These outlooks provide the best possible guidance based on the best available science, so that people can be informed about the upcoming hurricane season. Also, the outlooks are a reminder of the importance of knowing your risk and having a hurricane preparedness plan in place.

    <overview>
      <eaover>
CPC’s East Pacific Hurricane Seasonal Outlooks indicate the probabilities of whether the upcoming East Pacific hurricane season will have an above-normal, near-normal or below-normal level of activity. They also indicate the likely (2/3 chance) range of tropical storms, hurricanes, and major hurricanes that we can expect during the season, along with the likely range of ACE. The outlooks contain a detailed physical description of the climate patterns likely to affect the hurricane season.

Hurricane seasons are classified according to http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Epac_hurr/background_information.html
