Post processors CORe is using a modified version of the ncep post (UPP) from the gfs v15. There were bug fixes for conditions that only happened in the low resolution CORe and not the operaitonal GFS. CORe had the UPP output the fields in grib1 and used grb1to2.pl. The CORe ncep post has new code that generates the stream function and velocity in grib2. These fields are often used for tropical monitoring including MJO analses. The NCEP post was only run for the ensemble mean. For the atmospheric analyses of the ensemble members, the simple post (spost) was used. This program uses a log(P) interpolation to create analyese on pressure levels. For underground points, spost sets the points to undefined. For the historical reanalysis, we would create 25,929,600 spost analyses or 29,000 per month. The NCEP post can create the flux file. However, CORe needs the flux file from the ensemble members for driving ocean and land surface models. So the flux files were generated by converting the bfg nemsio file to grib, and extracting the desired fields.
