Pgb, Spgb and Flx

The 3 basic grib files have the name pgb, spgb and flx.

  pgb   = pressure grib, files created using ncep post (UPP, unified post processor)
          standare post processore for NCEP NWP models.  The flx fields have been
          removed file the pgb files.

  spgb  = simplified pressure grib, files created using spost, a very simple post 
          processer. Spost reads the fields on model levels and does a simple log(p)
          interpolation.  Spost was used on the ensemble members to save time.

          Unlike pgb files, spgb files will set the value to undefined if underground.

  flx   = flux file, fields created directly by the model.  

  stats = statistics file.  This file contains the statistics of the ensemble used
          to create the final analysis.

  mem   = ensemble member file from 001 to 080.  Ensemble member files were only generated
          for the spgb and flx files.
