CORe can have unrealistic values of cloud TMP and PRES. The model runs on a C128 cubed sphere grid and needs to be interpolated to a 512x256 Gaussian grid for data assimilation and model output. TMP and PRES are defined every where except for cloud TMP and PRESS. The interpolation to the Gaussian grid apparently used the simple/fast interpolation which assumes that all values are valid. As a result, some TMP/PRES values could approach the "undefined" value. This condition does not occur in record and is written into the nemsio output from the model. The potentially bad values of cloud TMP and PRES were discovered before delivering the operational code. So the NEMSIO files will continue to have the potentially bad values. The gfsnemsio2grb program has been changed not to write these fields to the grib files. However, the hpss (tape) archive will continue to have them. On-line archive may or may not have these fields.
